South Kilburn Studios 2012 Trainees Exhibition Ladders launched on Saturday 19th of May.

At the time, it was a ground-breaking scheme to teach, Brent based, youth skills to succeed in the creative industry and further giving them an opportunity to showcase their work.

The exhibition - formally known as Ladders - featured photography, illustrations, fashion and music created by trainees attached to 13 creative businesses at South Kilburn Studios (SKS).

SKS was funded by Brent Council, South Kilburn and awards rent-free work spaces to creative businesses in return for their commitment to the people from the Borough.

Among the few beneficiaries is Samiah Ahmed, 23, with illustrator Emily Evans, 26, who presented their new children’s book - ‘Fire’.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here at SKS. Having come here a few months after my degree, its given me the confidence I needed in myself as an illustrator. Working with Emily has give me the opportunity to explore new techniques and better myself as an illustrator.”

Studios Manager Caren Owen said: "The theme the trainees have chosen is Ladders with the idea that our trainees use it to show how their new skills are helping them reach goals for both personal and professional growth. It's a wonderfully exciting time for them. South Kilburn Studios is very proud of their work."

Another SKS trainee, Makeda Moore, 29, has been working with music production company Incredible Audio since last October, recorded and performed with SKS tenants Clean Bandit who are winning critical acclaim for their work
